El bosque rojo The red forest

Tras la explosión del reactor nuclear de Chernobyl, la ciudad de Pripyat y su zona de influencia fueron evacuados. Los árboles situados unos 10 km alrededor de la central se denominaron Bosque rojo, al ser afectados por la radiación y mostrar esta tonalidad al morir; de ahí el título de este proyecto. La serie El bosque rojo está compuesto por tres obras de igual formato. Los colores se reducen al verde (que no aparece incorporado a los seres vegetales, sino a los edificios) y el rojo, color de la violencia, que se encuentra aplicado a las especies vegetales y animales, como símbolo de su alteración genética y el daño sufrido. Los cielos y el agua son de color plata, tan irreal como el mismo espacio de esta devastación.

Para mí, esta zona recuperada es un símbolo inquietante de la violencia humana: contra el entorno, contra los animales no humanos, contra la propia especie humana. Pese a que la naturaleza, aparentemente, es capaz de recuperarse, las secuelas son impredecibles y nadie nos dirá, nunca, lo que han sufrido y sufren esos animales de genética brutalmente distorsionada. El reloj marca la una y veintitrés minutos, la hora exacta del desastre.

After the explosion of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, the city of Pripyat and its area of influence were evacuated. The trees located about 10 km around the nuclear reactor were called Red Forest, showing this tonality at death affected by radiation ; hence the title of this project. The series The red forest is composed of three works of the same format. The colors are reduced to green (which does not appear incorporated to plant beings, but to buildings) and red, color of violence, which is applied to plant and animal species, as a symbol of their genetic alteration and damage suffered. The heavens and the water are silver, as unreal as the space of this devastation. For me, this recovered area is a disturbing symbol of human violence: against the environment, against non-human animals, against the human species itself. Although nature, apparently, is able to recover, the consequences are unpredictable and no one will tell us, never, what these animals of brutally distorted genetics have suffered and suffer nowadays. The clock shows one and twenty-three minutes, the exact time of the disaster.
